Have a look around and learn all there is to know about me. Take a moment to drop me a line so we can talk about next steps.
I provide genealogical and historical research services and have been doing so professionally for about 20 years.
My grandmother got me hooked on working on our family tree nearly 40 years ago and it changed the course of my life. It guided my education and I received my Bachelor of Arts (Anthropology) from the University of Manitoba and have completed my Professional Learning Certificate in Genealogical Studies (PLCGS) from the National Institute for Genealogical Studies through St. Michael's College at the University of Toronto.
In addition to studying history, I've also studied records management and adult education and have worked in both of those fields. I was a business unit record coordinator for the City of Calgary and have taught college adult education courses in using computers for business for Red River College in Winnipeg.
I love to get more people involved in learning about their families’ histories. After getting her best friend hooked on her family tree, the two of them took a trip to England where their families came from. They traced her friend’s Suffolk lineage back to her multi-great grandfather and found his will. They also visited the graves of many of her ancestors in the local cemetery. Goosebumps! When asked how the trip affected her, Patty had this to say,
Words come to mind more than a statement. First word, “connected”. Recognition of being connected to a history, a timeline, a country, that I came from “good stuff”. Next word “reverent”. I was touching the same paper he did. Ran my fingers across the signature written by his pen, his hand. They became alive in the moment as I thought of them, reviewed the evidence they existed. They were not forgotten to time. [It] was little Clement’s grave that affected me the most deeply. He was a complete unknown to his living family and, not to sound over important, you and I brought him back to life, recognized his existence.
I have an excellent education and 20 years of professional experience working in history and genealogy.
I am an expert in database design, development and management.
I have managed large collections of resources including supervising a project that held the record for the largest document collection gathered for civil litigation in Canadian History. Then I worked on the file that took over that record.
